Sherritt is a recognized leader in the production of high purity nickel and cobalt from lateritic ore. The high-quality battery and alloy ready nickel and cobalt produced are used worldwide in stainless steel, specialty steel, chemical and welding applications. The high purity nickel and cobalt powder and briquettes are sought after for the most-favoured battery cathode chemistries in the rapidly expanding electric vehicle market.

Nickel and cobalt are refined in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada from mixed sulphide intermediate prepared at the mine and processing plant in Moa, Cuba.

Refined in Canada as part of our vertically integrated operations, our mining and refining processes adhere to the highest responsible sourcing and production standards and we maintain an unwavering attention to our environmental, social and governance commitments.

In addition to nickel and cobalt, Sherritt’s wholly-owned fertilizer, sulphuric acid and ammonia production facilities provides various other products for sale, primarily in Western Canada.

Nickel

Nickel’s principal value lies in its resistance to corrosion and oxidation and its strength at high temperatures. Nickel is used primarily in the production of alloys including stainless steel, batteries for electric vehicles and specialized materials (airplane engines and medical equipment).

Cobalt

Cobalt is used in the production of high speed, high temperature and wear-resistant super alloys, magnetic alloys, rechargeable batteries, chemicals and catalysts.

Cobalt briquettes are especially well-suited for the electric vehicle market due to the high purity and excellent dissolution characteristics.

Sherritt’s cobalt is 99.9% pure, exceeding the LME cobalt specification.

Standard Grade

Sherritt-branded nickel briquettes are registered and approved by the London Metal Exchange. These sintered nickel briquettes, produced at a minimum of 99.8% purity, are well suited for stainless steel, high nickel and other exotic alloys and battery chemical applications. Briquettes are ideal for dissolution applications and foundry applications, due to salient handling characteristics. [Specifications]

Steel Grade

Steel grade (unsintered) nickel briquettes typically have a purity of 99.6% Ni and are well suited for stainless steel production and foundry use. This workhorse material, designed for hopper and conveyer addition to furnaces for melt applications, is a low cost alternative for stainless steel production. [Specifications]

Granular Ammonium Sulphate

20.5-0-0-24 Granular Fertilizer is a high quality premium grade ammonium sulphate fertilizer product well suited for use in blending due to its uniform hard granular shape and consistent sizing.

Crystalline Ammonium Sulphate – Supersalt

21-0-0-24 Super Salt is a high quality crystalline ammonium sulphate fertilizer product with consistent sizing and suitable for blending.

Crystalline Ammonium Sulphate – Standard grade

Sulphuric Acid

Sulphuric acid is manufactured on site in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. It is a high quality product available in 93% and 98% strengths.

Zinc Sulphide

Zinc sulphide has a 45% to 54% zinc content and is suitable as a feedstock for zinc refining and nutritional supplement applications. The material is free-flowing, packaged in 1.5 tonne bulk bags.

Copper Sulphide
